It’s this simple: I do not use large language model (LLM) artificial intelligence tools, such as Claude, ChatGPT or other commercially available models, in my indexing, editing, or writing. I attempt to keep my indirect use of LLM-based tools, even web search engines and customer service chatbots, as minimal as possible.
Why do I do this? Because I value my skills and I value the labor of humans generally. I know that LLM tools cannot give you the insight and accuracy that a human can. I have been following trends in machine learning and artificial intelligence tools for twenty years, and I can code basic classifiers and other machine learning models to process data. I am not anti-computer, but I am pro-worker, pro-accuracy, and pro-truth.
